Manitoba Tree Guide
Visit this link for a terrific guide that provides everything you need to know to help you select the perfect tree to plant at the Woodland.
What If I Desire A Tree That is Not On The Recommended list?
As noted, we have selected these trees in order to maximize the health and success of the Woodland. However, (a cautious however) if someone wants a tree not on the list we will need to review the choice with our arborist. The decision to allow it will depend not only on the tree itself, but what the existing species makeup is of neighbouring trees in the Woodland. Of course we want our participants to be able to select their favourite tree, but we also need to consider the role of the tree in the future ecosystem and environment. Some of the larger trees require a large canopy and perimeter to thrive, and not interfere with neighbouring trees. As a general rule, there should be no more than 30% of any one species of tree in a planting area, in order to reduce the risk of insects and disease loss.
Selecting Your Tree
These are the varieties of trees that are available to be planted at our site. Those in the Small and Medium categories will take up one (25 meter) block of space. Large category, four blocks. Trees in the Large category will require an additional cost (TBA). This reflects the additional amount of space being set aside for these trees.
The (N) signifies “native” species.

MEMORIAL MARKER/QR CODE
After choosing to become “one” with the Memorial Woodland, you may also with to purchase a modest memorial marker. The flat 12″ x 6″ plate will be discreet, in order to maintain the look of the project as a park setting. An additional interesting option will be the incorporation of a QR code on the marker which will link to either your obituary and/or to a video of your choosing. i.e. someone attending the forest can use their device to scan the QR code and it would play the personalized video that has been created.
Maintenance
The amount of 30% of the total payment from each participant fee will be invested in a perpetual maintenance fund. The interest from the fund will provide funding for maintenance of the site. The site itself will be maintained in as natural a manner possible. It has not determined if winter path clearing will be provided.
We cannot warrant that the tree will be disease free, and will not provide a replacement tree if it dies or is destroyed. We will take prudent and reasonable efforts to maximize the health of all trees.
