We need your help ....

We are pleased to report that by combining our project with the Green Cemetery Project of Winnipeg, we have collectively achieved our magic number of participants.  This means that we will soon begin developing the site.  Now is the time to help our project grow by making a deposit and completing a participation agreement.  You can also support the cause by making a tax receiptable donation to our charity (Memorial Woodland of Manitoba).  Every dollar will help us add more amentities to the site!

By making your deposit of $1000, you are locking in the current pricing for a tree at The Memorial Woodland.

There will be an additional charge of $500 for the trees in the Large category.  See Selecting Your Tree below.

Submitting a deposit will secure the currently advertised rate schedule in our participation agreement.

Fee Schedule

  1. Deposit of $1000, which will secure the current terms of participation.
  2. The reservation of location, supply and planting of tree will all take place with the balance of payment of $2700.
  3. Contribution to perpetual maintenance fund.  Of the total amount paid of $3700, 30% of the total ($1110) will be placed in the perpetual maintenance fund.  The capital will be untouched, and the annual interest from the fund will be used to maintain the site in perpetuity.
  4. OPTIONAL memorial marker = $450
Total price for supply & planting of one tree with one person or pet remains  = $3700  (the total fee of $3700 is paid before any tree will be planted)
  5. Total price for supply & planting of one tree with one person or pet remains with memorial marker = $4150
  6. Trees in the Large category (see Selecting Your Tree) will require an additional $500 to the total price.
There will be instances where a second (or more) attendance  will be required.  The additional attendance fee will be $300.  e.g. A participant has their cremains scattered under a tree, and subsequently another person’s (or pets) cremains are added to the root system.

Based on consultations with both provincial and federal authorities, this enterprise is not subject to PST and/or GST.

The currently quoted purchase price is subject to future adjustment based on cost of supply. We live in inflationary times.  Presentation of your deposit for reservation will secure the current fee for the future.

Take a look at this short 1.5 minute (video #2) with a visualization of the project and imagine your tree as part of this wonderful forest.

You may also make your payment by e-transfer to:  info@MemorialWoodland.ca

The participant agreement is in the process of being edited.  The one attached is an older version to be replaced in the very near future.  A number of provisions have changed.

Manitoba Tree Guide

Visit this link for a terrific guide that provides everything you need to know to help you select the perfect tree to plant at the Woodland.

What If I Desire A Tree That is Not On The Recommended list?

As noted, we have selected these trees in order to maximize the health and success of the Woodland. However, (a cautious however) if someone wants a tree not on the list we will need to review the choice with our arborist. The decision to allow it will depend not only on the tree itself, but what the existing species makeup is of neighbouring trees in the Woodland. Of course we want our participants to be able to select their favourite tree, but we also need to consider the role of the tree in the future ecosystem and environment. Some of the larger trees require a large canopy and perimeter to thrive, and not interfere with neighbouring trees. As a general rule, there should be no more than 30% of any one species of tree in a planting area, in order to reduce the risk of insects and disease loss.

Selecting Your Tree

These are the varieties of trees that are available to be planted at our site.  Those in the Small and Medium categories will  take up one (25 meter) block of space.  Large category, four blocks. Trees in the Large category will cost an additional $500.  This reflects the additional amount of space being set aside for these trees.

The (N) signifies “native” species.

Plot plan of the Memorial Woodland

SELECTING YOUR SPACE IN THE MEMORIAL WOODLAND!

The plot plan (prepared by Tiana Swintak) shows the Memorial Woodland site divided into 25 square meter sections.  We will proceed to gps system to cross reference this plot with the site.  Once we are ready to do so we will allow existing participants to select their location.  The tree selected will determine how many plots are necessary.  The plot plan will then be updated to mark sections which have been reserved.  Going forward, participants will be able to select their location when they have paid their participation fee in full.

MEMORIAL MARKER/QR CODE

After choosing to become “one” with the Memorial Woodland, you may also with to purchase a modest memorial marker. The flat 12″ x 6″ plate will be discreet, in order to maintain the look of the project as a park setting. An additional interesting option will be the incorporation of a QR code on the marker which will link to either your obituary and/or  to a video of your choosing. i.e. someone attending the forest can use their device to scan the QR code and it would play the personalized video that has been created.

SHARING YOUR SPACE

There may be instances where more than one soul is being rested under one tree. An additional fee of $300 will be necessary for the “subsequent” resting. E.g. Two spouses (or friends) might choose to share a tree. Or someone may wish to make the tree the final resting place for their pet, and then themselves at a later time.

Maintenance

The amount of 30% of the total payment from each participant fee will be invested in a perpetual maintenance fund. The interest from the fund will provide funding for maintenance of the site. The site itself will be maintained in as natural a manner possible. It has not determined if winter path clearing will be provided.

We cannot warrant that the tree will be disease free, and will not provide a replacement tree if it dies or is destroyed. We will take prudent and reasonable efforts to maximize the health of all trees.
